Biostatistician

• Full-time, Fixed-Term position at HEW Level 8 until 11th December 2027.
• Campbelltown campus with flexible working arrangements.
• Salary: $120,754 – $134,051 p.a., plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

Provide authoritative biostatistical advice that strengthens research design, analysis and reporting across the Faculty of Health.

The Opportunity

You will provide authoritative specialist biostatistical advice and applied research support across the Faculty of Health. Working with research leaders, Faculty Research Operations and multidisciplinary researchers, you will improve the quality, rigour and competitiveness of health and medical research.

You will advise on complex study design, statistical methodology, sample size and power, analysis planning, interpretation and reporting. You will review grant applications, protocols and project concepts, and develop robust statistical analysis plans that address modelling, missing data, sensitivity analyses, uncertainty and limitations.

You will also guide applied analyses for priority research projects and produce statistical outputs for grants, ethics submissions, reports, manuscripts and partner communications. Through practical guidance, templates, quality standards and consultation practices, you will build researcher capability and support a sustainable Faculty-wide biostatistical service.

What Success Looks Like:

• Provide practical, authoritative advice on complex research design, statistical methodology, analysis and reporting.
• Strengthen grant applications and research protocols through robust and feasible statistical approaches.
• Develop reproducible statistical analysis plans and fit-for-purpose outputs for priority research projects.
• Establish consistent Faculty-wide guidance, templates and quality standards for biostatistical practice.
• Implement an effective triage and referral model that responds to demand and prioritises specialist support.

About You

• A postgraduate qualification in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, quantitative health research or a related discipline, with extensive relevant experience.
• High-level expertise in health and medical biostatistics, including study design, sample size and power, statistical modelling, analysis planning and interpretation.
• Extensive experience advising researchers or multidisciplinary teams and reviewing grants, protocols, ethics applications, manuscripts or research reports.
• Advanced proficiency in relevant statistical software and reproducible, well-documented analytical workflows.
• Highly developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the judgement and autonomy to manage complex matters and competing priorities.
