The Division of Western Sydney and External Engagement plays a key role in building and strengthening relationships with communities, partners, and stakeholders across the region and beyond. Through a broad portfolio that spans government relations, alumni engagement, philanthropy, marketing and communications, student recruitment, and strategic partnerships, the Division supports the University’s mission to drive positive impact, regional development, and global connectivity.

At the heart of this work is the Centre for Western Sydney, a leading hub for research, policy, and advocacy focused on the economic, social, and cultural development of Greater Western Sydney. The Centre provides valuable insights and drives initiatives that enhance the region’s visibility and influence, aligning with the University’s long-standing commitment to the communities it serves.

The Division also encompasses Western Sydney Creative, which fosters collaboration between the University and the creative industries. Through innovative projects and partnerships, this unit promotes cultural expression, creative enterprise, and community engagement, enriching the cultural life of the region while supporting student opportunities in the arts and design sectors.

The Office of Advancement leads fundraising and philanthropic efforts, cultivating meaningful relationships with donors, alumni, and key supporters. Working closely with internal and external partners—including the Foundation Council and Hawkesbury Foundation Board—the office manages strategic giving programs such as Staff Giving and matched funding initiatives. Its work supports scholarships, research, student experience, and community initiatives, fostering a culture of philanthropy that benefits the entire University community.

Government Relations is instrumental in managing the University’s engagement with local, state, and federal government stakeholders. This area supports advocacy, policy input, and funding initiatives, ensuring Western Sydney University has a strong voice in shaping higher education and regional development agendas.

With a network of over 200,000 graduates, Alumni Relations maintains lifelong connections with former students through the GradLife program. This includes career development resources, mentoring, networking events, and alumni chapters around the world. The Alumni team supports meaningful engagement, fostering a strong sense of belonging and encouraging alumni to contribute to the University’s future.

The Future Students, Marketing and Communications team drives recruitment, brand positioning, media relations, and digital communications. By delivering clear and consistent messaging across platforms, this team supports the University's growth and enhances engagement with prospective students, current students, and the broader public.

Partnerships plays a vital role in building and managing strategic collaborations with over 320 institutions globally, as well as key local partners such as the Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney Zoo. These partnerships support student mobility, research collaboration, and industry engagement—creating practical learning experiences and expanding the University’s reach both locally and internationally.

Together, these teams contribute to Western Sydney University’s vision to be a world-class institution deeply connected to its region, responsive to community needs, and engaged on the global stage.
