A key focus of the Division is enhancing the student experience and supporting academic staff in delivering high-quality education. It drives the development and implementation of academic policies and frameworks that support educational innovation, foster academic excellence, and respond to the evolving needs of students, industry, and society.

The Division also supports the University’s commitment to widening participation and creating inclusive pathways to higher education. This is reflected in its oversight of The College, a wholly owned University entity that provides tailored pathway programs, including Foundation Studies, Diplomas, and English language courses. The College delivers personalised support in smaller class settings, helping students transition successfully into undergraduate study.

Global engagement is another cornerstone of the Division’s work. Through its Transnational Education (TNE) programs, the University offers academic courses to students abroad in partnership with international institutions. These initiatives allow students to gain a Western Sydney University qualification while studying in their home country, supporting cross-cultural collaboration and expanding access to quality education.

The Division also plays a central role in strengthening the University’s research profile through its leadership of major research institutes and Strategic Research Initiatives (SRIs). These institutes include the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development; the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment; the NICM Health Research Institute; and the Institute for Culture and Society. Each is nationally and internationally recognised for research that addresses critical global challenges—from health and wellbeing to environmental sustainability and social transformation.
