The Division of Research and Enterprise plays a central role in advancing research excellence, fostering innovation, and developing strong partnerships both locally and globally. It provides strategic leadership across all aspects of the University's research activity—supporting researchers, enhancing the quality and impact of research, and translating outcomes into real-world benefits.

The Division oversees the development and implementation of research policies, facilitates competitive funding applications, and ensures compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements. It works closely with academic staff and research leaders to enable high-quality, high-impact research that aligns with the University's strategic priorities.

A key area within the Division is the Graduate Research School, which supports all higher degree research (HDR) programs, including the Master of Research, PhDs, and professional doctorates. The School provides academic and administrative support to candidates and supervisors, fosters a vibrant research culture, and ensures that students are equipped with the skills and guidance they need to succeed in their research journeys. By maintaining rigorous standards and offering tailored training and mentoring, the Graduate Research School plays a vital role in producing the next generation of researchers and thought leaders.

Research Services is another integral unit, delivering operational and strategic support for the University’s research activities. This includes assisting with grant submissions, managing funding agreements, overseeing research ethics and integrity processes, and supporting compliance with national and international research standards. The team plays a key role in enabling researchers to focus on what they do best—creating knowledge and generating impact.

The Division also leads the University’s efforts in research commercialisation and translation, helping to ensure that research findings deliver tangible benefits for society, industry, and the economy. Through initiatives such as the Easy Access IP (EAIP) model, Western Sydney University makes it simpler for industry partners to collaborate and access intellectual property. This model reflects a commitment to removing barriers and accelerating the path from discovery to practical application.

Through its enterprise initiatives, the Division supports entrepreneurship, innovation, and the development of commercial partnerships. It actively cultivates connections with industry, government, and community organisations to deliver outcomes that address complex challenges and support economic growth.
