Lead Western’s business continuity, crisis management and operational resilience capability.

The Opportunity
Western Sydney University is seeking a Manager, Risk and Resilience to lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the University’s Business Continuity and Resilience Framework. The role enables coordinated preparedness and recovery by identifying critical dependencies and associated risks across the University.

You will lead and maintain the Business Continuity Management (BCM) Program across the full lifecycle, including planning, implementation, testing, assurance and continuous improvement. You will develop and maintain BCM policies, frameworks and processes, ensuring alignment with IT disaster recovery, incident response and University governance.

Working with senior stakeholders, you will facilitate and embed business impact analyses and continuity planning, and deliver training and scenario-based exercises to build crisis response capability. You will coordinate stakeholders during critical incidents, support structured activation and decision support, and lead post-incident reviews to drive lessons learned and corrective actions.

In addition, you will support the broader enterprise risk function by contributing to the implementation of the Risk Management Framework, coordinating risk and business continuity assessments, and preparing materials for governance committees including ARC and Board reporting.

What Success Looks Like:

  • A mature BCM Program delivered across the full lifecycle, with clear assurance and improvement.
  • Business impact analyses and continuity plans embedded for critical functions and dependencies.
  • Crisis and incident capability strengthened through exercises, training and readiness assessments.
  • Incident activation, coordination and documentation run in a structured, timely way.
  • Post-incident reviews completed with clear corrective actions and executive reporting.

Please refer to the Position Description for full details.

About You

  • Five or more years’ experience managing business continuity programs; experience in higher education exposure a plus.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent BCM and operational resilience experience.
  • Extensive experience implementing and improving enterprise-wide BCM and crisis management frameworks.
  • Strong project and stakeholder management skills, including strategic change implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex problems proactively and strategically.
  • High-level communication skills, including executive reporting, policies and presentations.
