Counsellor

• Full-time, 12 month fixed term position at HEW Level 8.
• Parramatta South campus with flexible working arrangements.
• Salary: $118,969 – $132,069 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

Provide counselling, case management and wellbeing support that strengthens student safety, retention and success.

The Opportunity
You will provide professional counselling, psychoeducation and case management services to students experiencing personal, academic and wellbeing concerns. Working across individual, group, phone, face-to-face and electronic service models, you will deliver timely, ethical and accessible support that contributes to student safety, retention and success.

You will assess student needs, respond to risk and support critical incident responses while maintaining accurate records and completing appropriate follow-up. You will also provide consultation, training and practical advice to staff on student mental health and wellbeing, supporting informed and consistent responses across the University.

You will contribute to service planning and improvement by reviewing student feedback, using data and practice insights, and developing prevention and education initiatives. Through multidisciplinary consultation, referrals, advocacy and stakeholder partnerships, you will strengthen early intervention pathways and coordinated student support across a multi-campus environment.

What Success Looks Like:

• Deliver timely, ethical and accessible counselling and psychoeducation across multiple service models.
• Provide effective case management and critical incident support, including risk assessment, accurate records and follow-up.
• Strengthen service delivery through student feedback, data, practice insights and digital tools.
• Build staff and student capability through consultation, training, prevention and education initiatives.
• Maintain effective referral, advocacy and support pathways with internal and external stakeholders.

About You

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work or Psychology, with AASW membership or AHPRA registration.
• At least five years of direct counselling experience within an organisational setting.
• Experience designing and delivering group, education or training programs, including the use of technology.
• A strong understanding of university student wellbeing, including mental health, cultural diversity, equity, identity and faith.
• Strong communication, consultation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to resolve sensitive or complex matters.
