  • Salary: HEW Level 6 $97,693 – $104,713 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading


Provide specialist technical support to enable high-quality teaching and research in Social Sciences, Psychology and Education.

The Opportunity

The Senior Technical Support Officer will provide specialised technical support across teaching and research activities within the Social Sciences, Psychology and Education disciplines. The role focuses on supporting technology-assisted learning environments, both physical and virtual, through preparation of equipment, teaching materials and specialist setups.

The Senior Technical Support Officer will support the day-to-day operation of practical learning and research environments, working closely with academic staff, students and technical teams. Responsibilities include managing and maintaining a range of teaching, research and cyber technologies, while ensuring safe and effective use of specialised equipment and facilities.

The Senior Technical Support Officer will also contribute to research support, technical advice and continuous improvement initiatives. The role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with safety standards, maintaining operational efficiency across multiple campuses, and enhancing the overall student and staff experience.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Practical teaching spaces are consistently prepared with appropriate materials, equipment and clear safety protocols.
  • Technical support during classes is reliable, responsive and enhances the quality of the learning experience.
  • Research activities are effectively supported through timely technical advice, equipment setup and troubleshooting.
  • Teaching and research technologies, including hardware, software and virtual environments, are maintained and optimised for performance.
  • Safety compliance is upheld through regular audits, inductions and adherence to University procedures.
  • Standard operating procedures are developed, reviewed and applied consistently across technical activities.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives are identified and implemented to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Strong working relationships are built with academic staff, students and technical teams across multiple campuses.

About You
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated technical capability, strong problem-solving skills and experience supporting teaching and research environments, including:

  • Undergraduate degree in Applied Technology, Interactive Media or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
  • Extensive experience delivering technical support in teaching and research environments within Social Sciences, Psychology or Education.
  • Proven ability to prepare and support practical teaching spaces, including laboratories or specialised facilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting data collection, biofeedback tools and associated technology platforms.
  • Strong technical capability across macOS, iOS and Windows environments, with familiarity supporting applied technologies such as mobile and AR/VR devices.
  • Working knowledge of scripting, coding or development tools such as HTML, C# or similar languages.
  • Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and support multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives or operational enhancements within a technical environment.
