  • Salary: $118,969 – $132,069 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

 

Lead enterprise AI governance to enable safe, compliant and responsible adoption across education, research and operations.

 

The Opportunity
At Western Sydney University, we are creating a new era for AI enablement across education, research and operations. Through this role you will join a landmark opportunity to share the future of our AI capabilities that will underpin future success and our transition to an AI-powered world, withing a people-first mindset. You will lead the design and implementation of an enterprise-wide AI governance model that enables safe, effective and responsible use of artificial intelligence. Working within the Data Office, you will establish governance frameworks, policies, standards and controls that guide AI adoption across curriculum, research and operations.

 

You will act as the central point of contact for AI governance matters, providing expert advice on risk, compliance, regulatory obligations and responsible AI practices. You will engage broadly with stakeholders across cyber security, privacy, legal, risk, IT and academic portfolios to embed governance into AI lifecycle management and decision-making processes.

 

You will also lead risk and assurance activities associated with AI, ensuring that emerging risks such as bias, privacy, cyber security and transparency are effectively managed. In collaboration with technical and delivery teams, you will ensure governance requirements are integrated into the design, development, deployment and monitoring of AI solutions, supporting scalable and compliant adoption.

 

What Success Looks Like:

  • AI governance frameworks, policies and controls are established and adopted across the University.
  • AI risks are proactively identified, assessed and mitigated in line with regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Governance is embedded into AI lifecycle processes, ensuring compliance and effective oversight.
  • Stakeholders receive clear, accurate advice that supports responsible AI adoption.
  • Audit, regulatory and policy obligations are consistently met and demonstrated.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, governance, IT, data, cyber security, risk or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in governance, risk and compliance within complex environments.
  • Strong knowledge of AI governance frameworks, responsible AI principles and regulatory standards.
  • Experience developing policies, frameworks and governance artefacts.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement and advisory capability.
