The Opportunity
Western Sydney University is seeking an Indigenous Student Success Officer to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying the Associate Degree in Applied Policing at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn.
In this rewarding role, you'll provide culturally safe, holistic support throughout the student journey from enrolment through to graduation. Working closely with the School of Social Sciences, the Badanami Centre for Indigenous Education and other University support services, you'll help students navigate university processes, access the right support, and achieve their academic goals.
You'll become a trusted first point of contact for students and their families, providing advice, mentoring, pastoral care and case management while building strong relationships across the University and the NSW Police Academy.

What Success Looks Like:
- Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous Elders and communities.
- Provide culturally safe, holistic advice and support to Indigenous students.
- Organise and contribute to culturally appropriate student-focused events and initiatives.
- Advise on policies and practices impacting Indigenous students and communities.
- Monitor and report on Indigenous support programs and initiatives.

About You
You’re an adaptable, solutions-focused professional with a genuine commitment to delivering exceptional student service. You’ll bring:
- A relevant qualification or equivalent professional experience in providing high-quality customer or student services within a complex environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally and sensitively across a diverse student cohort.
- Proficiency with computerised information systems and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities independently and as part of a team.
- A demonstrated understanding of the needs of students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and a passion for enhancing the student experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements

- Obtain and maintain a Baseline National Security Clearance, as required by the NSW Police Academy.
These are mandatory conditions to be considered for this role, as required by the NSW Police Force.
