The Opportunity

Western Sydney University's School of Law is an ambitious and growing School recognised for its strong social justice mission, high-quality clinical legal education, and impactful research. As an Associate Professor, you will make a significant contribution to the School's teaching, research, and engagement activities. You will provide academic leadership through excellence in learning and teaching, contribute to curriculum development and innovation, and support student success across undergraduate and postgraduate law programs.

You will maintain an established research profile, undertaking high-quality research that contributes to the School's recognised strengths, including commercial law, human rights and international law, inter-Asia legalities, and social justice and critique. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will contribute to research partnerships, attract competitive funding, supervise higher degree research candidates, and strengthen the School's research culture and reputation.

As a senior member of the academic community, you will mentor colleagues, contribute to School governance and strategic initiatives, and build productive relationships with the legal profession, industry, government, and community organisations. What Success Looks Like:

  • Deliver outstanding teaching, curriculum leadership, and student learning experiences across undergraduate and postgraduate law programs.
  • Contribute to curriculum innovation and academic quality, supporting excellence in learning and teaching across the School.
  • Maintain an established research profile through high-quality publications, competitive grant applications, and collaborative research.
  • Supervise Higher Degree Research candidates and mentor early career academics.
  • Build productive relationships with industry, professional bodies and community partners.
  • Contribute to School leadership, governance, and strategic initiatives while fostering a collaborative and inclusive academic culture.

About You

  • A PhD in a relevant area of law.
  • Demonstrated excellence in tertiary teaching, curriculum development, and student engagement.
  • An established research profile with evidence of high-quality publications, successful research collaboration, and scholarly impact relative to opportunity.
  •  Experience supervising Higher Degree Research candidates and supporting the development of emerging researchers.
  • Demonstrated academic leadership through mentoring, academic service, curriculum development, or research initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build productive relationships across academia, the legal profession, industry, government, and the wider community.
