  • Salary: $137,681 – $147,032 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading


Provide leadership across research technical services supporting diverse University institutes.

The Opportunity
As Technical Manager, you will lead the technical services that support research across three prominent Research Institutes (the Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment, the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development, and the NICM Health Research Institute).

This role works closely with Institutes and TRTS leadership to drive infrastructure planning, oversee technical support and equipment needs for high-stakes research partnerships and programs, manage and lead teams of technical experts, and anticipate and communicate data, equipment, and infrastructure trends.

This role leads and co-designs strategic oversight of facilities, resources and safety compliance, ensuring that research environments remain fit for purpose and meet regulatory obligations. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders across all three Institutes to understand requirements, plan for future needs and prioritise technical support that aligns with Institute objectives and future strategies.

You will champion continuous improvement, leading cross-campus and cross-team initiatives that strengthen service delivery, optimise operational efficiency and build a positive and productive workplace culture. As part of a multi-campus network, you will also support broader technical operations by partnering with other Technical Managers to drive improvements across the University.

Based at the Hawkesbury campus, this role includes frequent travel to the Westmead Campus with additional travel to Bankstown and Penrith campuses, on occasion, as part of the multi‑site service model.

What Success Looks Like

  • Deliver high-quality technical support for research through effective resource coordination across the Institutes cluster.
  • Maintain operational frameworks that ensure facilities are safe, compliant and fit for purpose, meeting regulatory requirements including PC2, quarantine and anatomy regulations.
  • Lead and embed continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and operational efficiency across campuses and technical teams.
  • Foster a positive work environment by upholding technical service standards, supporting recruitment activities and enabling workforce capability development.
  • Ensure constant alignment of technical operations with Institute priorities and strategies through effective planning, scheduling and stakeholder collaboration.

About You

  • Postgraduate qualification in Science, Medical Science, Allied Health or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and delivery long term strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical staff and operations within Health-related teaching and research environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to technical support of science, animal research or human behavioural work
  • Proven capability in managing resources and technical infrastructure across multi-site environments.
  • High-level organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise, problem-solve and manage competing demands.
