  • Based at Western’s Kingswood (Penrith) campus, with flexible working arrangements
  • Salary: $85,778 – $97,006 p.a. plus 17% Super and Leave Loading


Provide hands-on technical support that underpins engineering teaching, research and laboratory safety.

The Opportunity
You will provide technical support to teaching and research activities in geotechnical and environmental engineering. This includes preparing laboratories and equipment for undergraduate practical classes and supporting staff and students during delivery, with a strong focus on safe and compliant operations.

You will support research activities by maintaining and operating specialised equipment, providing technical advice to researchers and HDR students, coordinating procurement and servicing, and assisting with data collection. You may also support other engineering disciplines when required to meet operational needs.

You will contribute to the effective operation of laboratories and workshops through equipment maintenance, development of standard operating procedures, participation in audits and stocktakes, and continuous improvement activities. You will play an active role in work health and safety by conducting risk assessments, managing chemical inventories, and delivering safety inductions.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Practical teaching spaces are prepared, safe and fit for purpose for scheduled classes.
  • Research equipment is maintained, calibrated and available to support research activity.
  • Staff and students receive clear technical guidance on safe equipment use.
  • Laboratories and workshops remain compliant with regulatory and University requirements.
  • SOPs, stocktakes and audits are completed accurately and on time.

About You

  • An undergraduate degree in Construction, Civil, Structural or Environmental Engineering, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical support in engineering teaching and research environments.
  • Proven capability in operating, maintaining and calibrating complex geotechnical or environmental engineering equipment.
  • Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collegially in multidisciplinary teams.
